I had 2 armies next to a barbarian village which had only 4 vps left in it (originally 6). My opponent had only 1 army. When the village was attacked I correctly got the remaining 4 vps, but my opponent was given 6vps!

Report history
Looking at the current board situation and the game log, I think I know what happened here. And all the rules of the game were followed as expected.
In placing the ship to surround "your" barbarian village and get the 4VP from it, you simultaneously filled the last unoccupied space around another village (because this one water space was the only unoccupied surrounding space for both). This was a 6VP village, which your opponent had one army for, while you had none. So your opponent correctly got 6VP.
I can only assume you were so fixated on scoring the one village for yourself that you didn't notice the impact on the other one, even after the fact.
