If you see the book "Win at Hearts" from Joe Andrews:

"None may lead a heart until a heart has been discarded or the SQ played" (p114).

So when the Queen of Spades is out, you should be able to lead a Heart.

Also occurred in our game. Table #184677337. Q Spades was played at move 413 then Adriaran, who won the trick, tried to lead a heart, but it did not allow. The "How to play" section of the site even notes "In traditional Hearts, playing the Queen of Spades also breaks hearts"

there are MANY variants of Hearts. In case of point, in the original, the Queen of Spades has no special meaning/scoring!

The most common is that the Queen of Spades is worth 13 points BUT DOES NOT BREAK Hearts.

However, having an optional rule where QoS DOES break Hearts would be nice

My preference/house rules/common rules agree that once the QofS is played, Hearts "have been" broken.

I tried this in alpha, but it wasn't popular enough and contradicts to other variants. Rejected.

Then the How To Play definitely needs to be updated since it says QoS breaks hearts
