There are 4 extremely overpowered cards in the base game that make further play almost meaningless if they fall into the starting hand/at the beginning of the game to a player who knows how to use them:
1) Chihuahuan Raven (officially banned in Oceania expansion)
2) Common Raven (officially banned in Oceania expansion)
3) Franklin’s Gull
4) Killdeer

You can also find discussions about this on BGG and in the Steam version. Theese cards and combination of them really breaks the game. -

Report history
(p2, under "Nectar".)
Move #57 and Table #297257118 Move #68). I won one game, and lost the second by 5 points. I did notice the card is very powerful, as it allows you to gain two food from the source, while only giving up an egg (you will nearly always have an egg to give up, as its only habitat is the Grassland), and this in effect allows you to subsequently play any bird costing 2 food or less, without even using the Forest to take food. Then you can pretty much ignore the Forest, and simply hit the usually points heavy Grassland.
However in the second game, I tended not to use the Raven's power so much, as the number of eggs was critical, due to the end of round goals, and it being later in the game. So it would appear its power is somewhat situational, as acknowledged above.
Oddly too, in the first game I got the Killdeer before the Raven; presumably an amateur like myself needs both over-powered cards to win! (Table #295471536 Move #17) Similar thing, except that this time you can partly ignore the Wetlands, by discarding an egg to draw 2 cards! Put them both in the Grasslands, as I did, and it was happy days!
I'm not saying that having an option to remove these cards is terrible, but I wonder if this might open up a can of worms (pardon the terrible pun!) Its all very well choosing certain expansions, or even certain features of a game, but removing cards might mean all kinds of arguments, especially when the effect is very situational. Wingspan is a game in which card draw luck is a significant factor, especially in terms of combinations of cards. Can we really rule confidently in these cases?
I completely support the idea that these 4 cards are significantly overpowered and strong players can more or less automatically win with them if played early.
The difficult thing is, getting the publisher's attention and approval.
Also removing FRANKLIN’S GULL AND KILLDEER would be even better. Two resources for an egg is too over powered.
Where is the ability to remove the big 4?
