#111339: "Should be able to choose order that card abilities are resolved"
infoneeded: More information is requested by developers to reproduce this bug

Rules: a rule of the game has not been respected
Detailed description
• Which part of the rules was not respected by the BGA adaptation
The rules state "If you trigger multiple Abilities in a single word, you can resolve those Abilities in any order you choose."
However, the BGA implementation chooses the order and prompts the player to resolve or skip each ability, one by one.
The game should instead allow the user to click on each ability, in the order they choose, in order to resolve them.• Is the rules violation visible on game replay? If yes, at which move number?
No.• What is your browser?
Google Chrome v120

The specific situation which prompted this bug report was a case where I had one card which would let me trash it to gain coins, and other cards which let me jail cards. What I wanted to do was use the jail abilities to trash cards on the offer row. Then, depending on what new cards replaced them, I would decide if I wanted to trash my card to gain coins. However, the game forced me to decide about trashing my own card first, before it let me resolve my jail cards.
I think that jail abilities and preview abilities are the only ones where being able to choose the order is important (since they can change the game state in ways that you cannot predict and which may influence how you want to resolve your other abilities).
Of course, uncover abilities need to be resolved before abilities on the uncovered cards can be resolved. And it occurs to me that you could end up with more complicated situations where the ability to choose the order would be important. For example, the outcome of a preview or jail ability could dictate how I want to resolve one of my uncover abilities. And that uncover ability could itself make other jail, preview, or uncover abilities available to me.
The more I think about it, the more it seems like the player should just be able to click on the abilities to resolve them, in the order they choose. The only exceptions would be cases where there is no choice to be made (e.g. a double at the start/end of the word, or an uncover with only one adjacent wild). Care would have to be taken when dealing with double abilities that are adjacent to cards that trash themselves -- ideally the user would at least be prompted to confirm in cases that they tried to trash that card before resolving the double benefit.

18. Jan 2024 1:03 • It's much too difficult to change every action to a free-for-all with no established order, and it's a lot more cumbersome for players if you aren't guided though all the abilities you could potentially use (for example, which card's double ability are you using when).
However, you can already "preview" early (the action button is on the card at all times and you can click it before you are prompted to do so). Basically you're asking for the same thing with "jail".
